Certificate of Marriage in a British Columbia Divorce

A certificate of marriage is required to file for divorce in British Columbia unless it is impossible to obtain. The certificate of marriage must be an original certificate of marriage as issued by Vital Statistics. A certificate of marriage issued by a church or the person who performed the wedding ceremony is not acceptable.

You can obtain your certificate of marriage by contacting Vital Statistics, or the equivalent thereof, in the province, state or country where you were married. We can also obtain the Certificate of Marriage on your behalf with our Certificate of Marriage Service.
